The Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers' Association (JAIMA) was founded in 1960 with the objective of promoting the advancement of science and technology through the improvement of analytical instrument technologies and the further development of the analytical instruments industry, thereby contributing to the growth of the Japanese economy and the enhancement of cultural and quality standards of life. As JAIMA marks its 66th year since establishment, we take this opportunity at the beginning of the year to once again reflect on the significance of our association and its future direction, while striving to contribute to the sustainable development of society.
In 2025, while uncertainties such as geopolitical risks and energy-related issues persisted, remarkable progress in science and technology—including generative AI, quantum technologies, and new energy fields—brought tangible hope to society. In particular, the Nobel Prize awarded to Japanese researchers demonstrated Japan’s high level of scientific capability to the world and once again highlighted the importance of analytical and measurement technologies that support such research.
As an industry association supporting the foundations of science and technology, JAIMA has provided policy recommendations from the perspective of the analytical instruments industry regarding the renewal of research infrastructure promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). As a result, initiatives such as the research infrastructure renewal program (EPOCH), which aims to promote the development and introduction of advanced equipment as well as the creation and utilization of high-quality research data compatible with AI for Science, have been incorporated into the current fiscal year’s supplementary budget. JAIMA will continue to fulfill its responsibilities and role as a representative of the analytical instruments industry.
Supported by these favorable conditions, the analytical instruments industry has maintained steady growth and is strengthening its global presence not only in the domestic market but also in worldwide through exports. At the same time, continued attention must be paid to changes in international affairs and the trade environment, and stronger unity and strategic responses across the industry are required more than ever.
As an industry association that delivers the “power of analysis” to society, JAIMA has been promoting activities centered on technological innovation, human resource development, and international collaboration. Through initiatives such as standardization, promotion of digital transformation, development of young engineers, and strengthened cooperation among industry, academia, and government, we believe that contributing to the resolution of societal challenges is a vital mission of our association.
Going forward, through various initiatives including JASIS, we will continue to communicate the value of the analytical instruments industry both domestically and internationally. In 2026, JAIMA will continue to work together with its members to take on new challenges toward realizing “a sustainable future created by analysis.” We sincerely appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
